Nintendo Everything recently shared the release window for Sweetheart, the first-person, narrative-driven horror breakup simulator by Genie Boy Games, slated to arrive on PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2027.
Ending a 15-year relationship with your childhood crush is never easy, especially when your soon-to-be ex-girlfriend isn’t handling the transition as well as you’d hoped, and has mutated into a living nightmare. Caught somewhere between horror and comedy, Sweetheart expresses the mental and emotional fallout of your breakup with a reality that slowly dissolves around you, as you attempt to achieve closure and avert an existential crisis with your former beau.
“It’s hard not to want to be like the perfect couples we see on TV,” said Ben Escobar, founder of Genie Boy Games. “Between the horror and comedic elements lies an authentic, meaningful tale revolving around the stigma of mental illness, the gray areas of dependent identities, and ultimately overcoming abuse in a relationship.”
Sweetheart plans to creep into your DMs when it launches on PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam, along with Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in 2027.
