BUCK Games and Antfood have released the first 15 minutes of gameplay from their upcoming ladder focused 2D platformer Ladder Lad and Gematsu has the preview ready to go!

Forget the jump button. You need a ladder! Take your 2D platforming skills to new heights as you scale a towering, ladder-shaped world armed with only a ladder and the determination to reach the next rung. Using unique twin-stick controls, the ladder becomes an extension of your hands: Tilt, plant, and fling it with full physical control as you seek mastery in the ancient art of Rung Fu.

The video starts with the Lad falling into a pit, very reminiscent of the opening to the classic 2D roguelike, Dead Cells before a ladder and an odd ladder salesman with two very large eyes in a suit offers the Lad a ladder to traverse the world. With the constant commentary from this mysterious character serving as the tongue-in-cheek tutorial topping, the Lad continues on his journey, using his newfound ladder to get around. The ladder can be placed in between gaps to cross as well as to ascend.

*Results may vary. Ladder Lad takes no responsibility for any existential crises, strained relationships, or repetitive stress injuries sustained during your climb. Ladder Lad does not constitute financial, spiritual, or life advice. Side effects may include: unbridled ambition, mild vertigo, and a rock-solid belief that the next rung will be the one where everything finally clicks. Some lads were harmed in the making of this game. Void where prohibited. Prohibited everywhere. Climb anyway.

Ladder Lad is clearly a game built with humor involved as the phrase “technicolor burp” is used. And somehow, it’s a perfect description of what happens. Later, the lad encounters a ledge he cannot reach and is given a free upgrade. This game really is all about traversal with a ladder. And each scenario in these first 15 minutes gives a perfect look at what to expect going forward.

Ladder Lad has no release date but will launch of PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch.
