TechRaptor gets a hands-on during PAX East with Dreadmoor, the dark fishing adventure set in a post-nuclear apocalypse world developed by Dream Dock Games and published by Digital Vortex Entertainment. The write up details the atmosphere and gameplay, placing it in the same breath as indie classic, Dredge.

There’s no shortage of life-sim games that focus on crafting, fishing, and maintaining your equipment, but DREADMOOR offers these elements against the backdrop of a macabre, swampy environment. During my DREADMOOR preview at PAX East, I saw a lot of shared DNA with Dredge, making this a great experience for those looking for a more hands-on fishing adventure. This game is a spooky and compelling take on the fishing and adventure genre.

Dreadmoor blends dark imagery and environments with the (supposed) serenity of fishing to great effect. Players will face the horrors of the deep, occasionally in real time battles, fending off frightening undersea threats and managing resources. The post-apocalyptic world of Dreadmoor is not for the faint of heart.

At another point, I was trying to refuel my boat and ended up jumping over the side by accident. That killed me instantly, which was another valuable lesson: The water is not a friendly place. To progress, materials need to be gathered to craft upgrades and get your boat to a more seaworthy condition so that you may challenge the depths that lie ahead.

Dreadmoor is tracking for a release on PC via Steam in Q4 2026. It’s one fishing adventure that is sure to grab gamers. Just don’t get dragged into the deep, the waters aren’t for swimming.
