NAME OF THE WILL casts players as Neighbor 3279, a member of HOPE, which is a group led by someone known as the Benevolent Father. Modern society offers an archaic approach to emotional trauma, but with the Benevolent Father and his teachings, you can shirk distress. Negative thoughts no longer hold you down. Physical pain becomes a blessing, and death becomes the highest honor one can achieve.
NAME OF THE WILL is a psychological horror game that takes every movement and action into account as players navigate the day-to-day operations of the HOPE cult and try to get a handle on the secrets of the Benevolent Father and the dark cult that he runs. Solve puzzles that uncover the origins of this group while avoiding the Benevolent Father as he roams the halls looking for dissenters. Get caught, and get sacrificed.
Falling out of line could prove fatal, but don’t worry! Fellow followers keep each other accountable along the path to enlightenment. During the day, follow every rule and adhere to HOPE’s transformative behavioral codes: attend education courses, cooperate during “questionnaires”, and vote on Star of the Day – a lucky individual handpicked to “receive special blessings.” Embed within HOPE’s 34-story Reformation facility, and hide every emotion behind an ever-smiling mask. Mind each word and deed to survive thrive in seven days of indoctrination introduction alongside fellow followers.
The trailer highlights the game’s animated art style that feeds into the unsettling nature of the narrative. Followers are all dressed similarly and the perpetual smile on the cult’s signature masks hint at even more sinister events than are already going on.
