Jalopnik’s very own Amber DaSilva leans into each and every turn in LANESPLIT, the traffic-weaving motorcycle racing simulator developed by solo developer FunkyMouse, highlighting the peace discovered out on the road between fatal high-speed traffic maneuvers. No objectives. No checkboxes to mark off or lists of achievements to complete. Just Amber, the road, and their choice of ride.
Sure, 2026 is going to bring us a new “Grand Theft Auto” and that James Bond game from the “Hitman” devs, but I honestly have enough big games that I’m already not spending my free time on. “LANESPLIT” promises — and, in its free demo, already offers — a nice, simple game to get you into the flow state on a single task. It’s less of a competitor to “Forza,” and more like an infinite runner or “Mirror’s Edge” game. The only things you need to pay attention to are the cars ahead of you, and you can tune out the rest of the world — except, of course, for the breakcore music that the game plays once you start really moving.
LANESPLIT offers players the opportunity to enter a high-octane flow state while flirting with death as “responsible” drivers merge onto the highway and unexpectedly switch lanes as they abide by the speed limit. Experience the physics, motion blur, and tight controls of 15 high-performance motorcycles as the energetic drum-and-bass soundtrack intensifies in volume alongside the speedometer. Test reactive reflexes and wisely split lanes in Rush Hour mode, or become one with the road in Zen Mode for traffic-free runs without fear of failure.
