Paste Magazine’s Chris Aiken reported that  City of the Shroud, the real-time tactical RPG and social experiment from Abyssal Arts, will launch chapter one of its tale on PC and Mac via Steam on Aug. 9, 2018. A definitive edition on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will follow next year.

In his article, Chris explains the core mechanics of City of the Shroud that go against the grain by breaking down the game’s fighting game inspirations and experimental, community-driven storytelling.

The game is episodic in nature, but Abyssal Arts is looking to put a spin on the genre by letting player’s actions collectively affect the development of the following chapter. That means that every character death, every character that lives, and which faction reigns supreme is determined by looking at all the most common choices among every player, not just individuals.

Chris calls Abyssal Arts’ approach both “interesting” and “fascinating,”  before going on to highlight the game’s PvP elements. Watch the trailer below for more insight into how City of the Shroud is changing things up this August.
