TryHard Guides gears up to survive the zombie apocalypse in its review of HumanitZ, the isometric open-world zombie survival sandbox from developer Yodubzz Studios and indie.io.

Enter HumanitZ, a title that has just left its two years in Early Access to create a solid, if imperfect, competitor in the hardcore zombie-survival genre.

One obvious difference I noticed in my playthrough ofHumanitZ was the inclusion of NPC characters scattered throughout the game’s map. These characters add small dialogue exchanges and trade options with the player, but you can still kill and loot them if you’re feeling more like a Negan than a Rick.

Civilization shattered in the wake of a zombie outbreak, leaving humanity an endangered species in a world now ruled by ‘zeeks.’ The stench of rotting flesh pervades in abandoned towns where blood stains the streets. Survivors fight against hunger, exposure, infection, and the relentless undead in an unforgiving landscape growing more hostile by the day.

Since Early Access, Yodubzz has redesigned and remastered the open world, now denser, darker, and more dangerous than ever. Dynamic weather, drivable vehicles, and unpredictable hazards ensure that no two survival stories unfold the same way. The undead’s numbers grow by the minute while the world itself becomes more feral and less forgiving.

I also noticed that the game puts more of an emphasis on gathering using more traditional survival game mechanics, like chopping down trees, cutting up bushes for plant fiber, or picking up rocks. If you’ve playedProject Zomboid, you know that this is clearly a much more streamlined and interactive system to get resources from nature than that game’s honestly infuriating-at-times scavenging system.

The 1.0 launch delivers sweeping overhauls shaped by community feedback, reinforcing HumanitZ’s identity as a deeply customizable survival sandbox. Revamped skill trees and professions enable deeper customization and risky multiclassing, while the new infection system spreads in real time, forcing swift decisions or a grim transformation into a monster.

For survivors willing to push further, The Island awaits. Cut off from the mainland and shrouded in mystery, this newly accessible region crawls with new horrors and long-buried truths, offering a brutal challenge for those ready to test their limits.
