PC Gamer calls in the big guns for their list of the best Steam Deck games as determined by Katie Wickens, Wes Fenlon, and Christopher Livingston. Valve’s portable gaming device has allowed PC gamers to take their favorite Steam titles on the go, including Roots of Pacha (a co-op farming & life simulation game set in the stone age developed by Soda Den) and WORLD OF HORROR (the unsettling cosmic horror retro RPG from developer panstasz and publisher Ysbryd Games). PC Gamer featured these Stride PR-assisted titles alongside their peers to create a stellar collection of recommended titles to play on Steam Deck!

Cultivate a quaint farm and nurture a more sedentary lifestyle during an age when nomadic civilizations were the norm, in Roots of Pacha . Live out pleasant days in the Stone Age while learning to farm various crops or befriend a wooly mammoth as a peaceful way to relax alone or add a few friends for co-op fun.

“Slow paced and perfect with a controller, farming sims are some of the best games for the Steam Deck,” writes PC Gamer, “This I’ve picked over Stardew because it’s everything I wanted and more—please don’t hate me—but Stardew works just as well.” They concluded with the genre’s strengths when playing on a Steam Deck, “Games like this take up very little space, won’t drain your battery, and are great for short, casual drop in gaming sessions.”

Roots of Pacha is available now on Steam (Deck Verified), Nintendo Switch, and PS5|PS4. More information is available on the official website.

While cozy gaming is excellent on Steam Deck, some players look for more bone-chilling experiences. WORLD OF HORROR, a tribute to the eldritch monstrosities of cosmic horror, the spine-tingling ghost stories of Japan’s iconic film history, and so much more, creates an unforgettable fright fest. WORLD OF HORROR has captivated gamers ever since its reveal, with its wildly different branching paths, decision driven gameplay, and an invitation to weaponize knowledge of things too horrible to describe.

PC Gamer called WORLD OF HORROR a “truly unusual mix of roguelite and point & click adventure” in their Steam Deck recommendations list. They went on to write, “Short runs using remixed characters and nightmares and objectives keep things scary and unpredictable, while the black and white aesthetic really sets the mood” saying it is “one of our favorite horror games of 2023.”

WORLD OF HORROR  is available now on Steam (Deck Verified), Nintendo Switch, and PS4. More information can be gleaned from the official website.
