Inverse’s Robin Bea conquers the challenges of an all-powerful monarch in The King is Watching, the roguelite kingdom builder from developer Hypnohead Studios and publisher tinyBuild, available now on Steam.
The King Is Watching isn’t a typical city builder, but it satisfies some of the same desire to build a perfect kingdom and watch it thrive.
The result is a somewhat frantic game that mixes the organizational joy of arranging a Resident Evil inventory or placing Tetris blocks just right with the thrill of building a perfect army and slinging spells just where they’re needed on the battlefield.
Step into the shoes of a “motivational monarch” and witness as the realm praises his benevolence. Gaze upon the regions of a kingdom full of lazy peons to let them know it’s time to work. Stare at wheat fields and watch peasants harvest, but avert the royal gaze, and they’ll drop everything to avoid work. Stay vigilant on the castle to maintain production chains while invading armies attempt to divert attention.
