Engadget checked out the reveal trailer for Echo Generation, the turn-based adventure game from Cococucumber where a gang of kids investigate supernatural occurrences to save their small town, coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Steam for Windows PC in 2021. The trailer shows off an array of mechs and monsters plaguing an otherwise quiet Canadian town after a mysterious object crashes in the nearby cornfields.
Writer Igor Bonifacic saw in this teaser throwbacks to another playfully creepy game.
You can see EarthBound’s influences in the atmospheric story set in a small town in the early 90s. There’s also the turn-based combat that pits a group of friends against enemies like mechs and monsters. At the same time, those influences are complemented by a charming art style that makes use of voxels.
People love EarthBound (known as Mother 2 in Japan) for a lot of reasons, but from a historical perspective, it’s notable for being one of the games former Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata worked on while he was a programmer at the company.
Echo Generation will come to Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in 2021. It will run in 4K Ultra HD at 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X. For more, visit the game’s official website, add it to your wishlist on Steam and follow Cococucumber on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
